Mid East Racing at Airport

Well, well, well, finally a weekend free of rain and cold and nothing but blue skies and temps in the mid 60's. I think the Mid East Racing Winter Series deserved a great weekend after the first two rounds that were hampered by bad weather and weak turnouts. So, for the weekend of Feb 7-8, 2015 we were graced with perfect racing weather and boy did it bring out the riders. The event was held in Hickory, NC at the old Wilson Airport property. It's still a working grass runway airport and has hosted some GNCC events back in the day. It is also currently used by Mid East Racing during the regular season as one of the regular stops circuit.

Both days, quads on Saturday and bikes on Sunday, gave way to high rider counts, high spectator counts and some long lines. This event provided an opportunity for Mid East Racing to introduce their new scoring system and rider transponder tags, which took a little more time at signup than anticipated. But, I think everyone realized that Mid East is only making the series better and it didn't seem to bother anyone that it was taking a little more time to get signed up. Plus, I think more riders came to race than were expected. Even a few named Pro riders came to blast the woods in Chris Boch, Trevor Bollinger and Takeshi Koikeda.
